Up to the first $50,000 of your home's appraised value could be tax exempt. Contact the Assessor's Office (843)958-4100, to reduce your taxes substantially, if you are not already qualified fo your 4% assessment ratio, primary residence. Also, apply for any agricultural farm land use assessments at the Assessor's office. DO YOU OWN A MOTOR VEHICLE? If you are over 64 years old, request the senior citizen discount by contacting the Auditor's office (958-4200) for a new bill. Does your motor vehicle average over 15,000 miles per year? If so, appeal your bill in person at the Auditor's office before you make payment. If you sell your auto, you can transfer your tag to the new car, or turn in your tag for a refund. If you move to another state, you can apply for a refund for the taxes for the unused months. PROPERTY TAX RELIEF Property tax relief will apply as last years, and homeowners (4% legal residence) will receive up to $336.00 property tax relief credit on a $100,000 home.
